Last friday, while going through the theater list updates in news paper, happened to see the name 'The Woman in Black'. Since there was no advertisement regarding the movie, I thought it might be a mistake committed by the news paper and the word Woman is a printing mistake in place of Men, the movie can be the latest version of 'Men in Black' series.
Any way, while roaming round the city later, seeing the posters of actor Daniel Radcliffe, created a doubt. It was regarding the 'Harry Potter' series of movies. The last part of HP got released few months before, it took some time for me to connect the actor Daniel with the new movie TWIB, to be frank, only after a friend of mine asked 'Have you watched the new movie by Daniel Radcliffe ?'
The movie tells the story of an young lawyer Arthur (Daniel Radcliffe), a widower, living in London with his young son. He is traveling to a remote village, to sort out a legal issue. When he reached there, he finds that the locals are frightened at the activities of a woman ghost. The children in the locality is being murdered and the people blaming the dead woman as the
reason for that. The villagers also warns Arthur, to leave the place, but he stays there to know the real truth about the lady.
The director has been successful in adding the ingredients necessary for a horror movie. The choosing of such a location, the house in the center of the forest, the road surrounded by water etc are other highlights. The arrangements done inside the house gave the real haunted feel. The chairs, different styles of dolls, screaming voices, mysterious deaths, silence happening in between, showing the face of ghost woman at a glance etc are good enough to frighten a common man. It is true that I got scared and shocked at few occasions. The climax is also done in a good way.
The cinematography of the movie is excellent, the greyish and the dark tone helped to create the horror mood. The art direction, make up and the visual effects departments gave a good support. The background score, the sound effects and the mixing departments gave a challenging show. Daniel Radcliffe has done well in the lead role.
