Saguni
Medium : Tamil
Starring : Karthi, Prakashraj, Santhanam, Kota Sreenivasa Rao, Nasser, Pranitha, Radhika, Roja, Kiran
Director : Shankar Dayal
Music : G.V.Prakash Kumar
It is almost an year, since 'Paruthiveeran & 'Paiyya' fame Karthi's last movie, 'Siruthai' got released. This time, the actor has tried a different subject, a political comedy satire 'Saguni', directed by new comer Shankar Dayal. The movie is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and distributed by Studio Green.
Kamal (Karthi) comes to Chennai, hoping to get help from the minister, in order to save his land grabbed by the railway to build a subway. He meets Rajini (Santhanam), an auto driver, who drives him to many places, they became friends later. Kamal satys with his aunt (Roja) and started loving her daughter (Pranitha). He meets the Chief Minister (Prakash Raj), who is a corrupted politician. The latter had offered help at any time, when he visited Kamal's house, during an election campaign, in the past. Now, the leader has behaved in a very harsh manner with Kamal and this causes the hero to take revenge.
As the title suggests, 'Saguni' has got an excellent story, but the lack of experience of the new writer - director had created some problems. (The movie regarding the political king maker, would have been a brilliant creativity, if such an idea might have gone to super director Shankar's mind!). Here, more importance have been given to comedy sequences in the first half,
between Karthi and Santhanam. The way in which the story travels is good to watch, but a more stable approach is needed in dealing such a big subject. The heroism is shown in a different manner, the growth of the hero in few areas, creates an unbelievability and the logic factor can be questioned. In short, the movie doesn't gives a thrilling feel. The heroine character does not have anything to do, other than coming to songs and give few smiles at the hero.
P.G.Muthiah's cinematography is excellent. Sreekar Prasad is the editor. G.V.Prakash Kumar's bg score is good, but the songs were not appealing, a couple of them not needed for the story. Choreography of the songs didn't felt unusual. Action scenes are done by Anal Arasu, the master's original 'fire' is not seen here.
Karthi did the lead role in his style. He needs to improve in the dance sequences. Santhanam gave a good company, some of his humor oriented dialogues creates good laughs. It is a left hand job for Prakashraj in doing such a villain role, he is good to watch. Radhika, Roja and Kiran creates
attention.

Lack of professionalism in presenting a good story, had caused Saguni to become a very ordinary movie. Even then, this is a watchable one for fans of Karthi.
