In every decade, we will see the rise of some unusual actors in lead / notable roles in movie, irrespective of the language. The malayalam industry has been practicing such a custom since the olden days. We have got examples of actors like Vincent, Sudheer, Ravikumar, Jose etc doing the hero oriented roles and later they were replaced by some new comers. In the 90's, during the action - comedy trend, we have got Indrans, Babu Antony etc being placed as lead. The latest one to join such a group is Baburaj. He has reached the industry as villain and later took the roles of director and script writer also. As he got a good break through movies like 'Salt N Pepper' and 'Maayamohini', he thinks that it is time for him to do a hero role.

'Naughty Professor' is directed by Harinarayan ('Neelambari' fame). It is heard that the creators of the movie had contacted Baburaj for a date, with some other story. But the actor is having confidence in a new subject with him. Thus he became the script writer of the movie and also did the title role in it. Lakshmi Gopalaswamy comes as the hero's pair.

Professor Viswambharan (Baburaj) is working in an engineering college. He treats his students as friends, also accompany them to do the naughty things. He is married to a former film star Karthika (Lakshmi Gopalaswamy). He doesn't allow his wife to continue in her profession. The professor's life is changed when a police officer (Tini Tom) and his wife (Lena) came as their new neighbors. When Karthika deciedes to continue acting, the family stability is affected.

The movie is supposed to be a family comedy. But, the execution is never serious. The second half is horrible in most places and gives a sleepy mood. There is not a genuine joke, that will make you laugh. It is clearly evident in the scenes in which the hero trying to buy condom from a medical shop and the hero's old friend acting against the old man. Though the hero is shown as a professor, nothing is shown regarding his teaching skills. The friendship between the teacher and the students is unrealistic (Krishnaprabha, who came as Jagathi's pair in some movies, has been given the role of a student!).

The couple of songs in the movie is unwanted, poor choreography is evident in the second one featuring a dancer like Lakshmi Gopalaswamy. The dancing shots in the bar atmosphere inside the house is artificial. Innocent did a replica of his own role in 'Ishtam' and 'Pakshe'. The climax is done in a poor manner. The police officer character is not strong. The misunderstanding regarding the telephone is not created in a good way. The change happening to the hero character in the middle and towards the end are both unwanted. The doctor's description regarding the hero is not clear. The kids calling their father by the name 'professor', cannot be accepted at any cost. Bheeman Raghu's role is very bad.

Sajith Menon is the cinematographer. Bijith Bala is the editor. Thej Merwin's bg score is heavy. Baburaj did the role in an usual manner, it is good for him to do supportive characters rather than trying hero roles. The dubbing artist did the maximum job for Lakshmi Gopalaswamy. Lena is good, she catches attention by wearing some glamorous outfits. Tini Tom gave a dry show.

He doesn't teach anything good, so it is better to keep distance from this Naughty Professor.
