Mughamoodi
Medium : Tamil
Starring : Jeeva, Narein, Pooja Hegde, Nasser, Girish Karnad, Krishnakumar, Selva
Director : Myshkin
Music : K
He had given four movies only in the past six years; but he is one among the top directors in tamil industry, these days. We are telling about Myshkin, the creator of notable movies like 'Chithiram Pesuthadi', 'Anjathey', 'Nandalaala' and 'Yudham Sei'. Don't forget he has handled the lead role in 'Nandalaala'. When such a director, who is notable for giving some realistic flicks, comes with a different track, a super hero subject, the curiosity will be more.
Jeeva is doing the lead role in 'Mughamoodi'. Narein, the director's close associate, comes in the baddie role. New heroine Pooja Hegde is introduced here. Music is handled by K ('Yudham Sei' fame). The posters of the movie with the hero's appearance in mask, gives the feeling that this one is a super hero subject. We have seen the impact of hollywood movies with super action heroes like 'Spiderman', 'Bat Man' etc among the viewers. Now, it is time for Myshkin to create history at the South Indian box office, with a movie bearing a similar theme (?). The movie is produced by UTV pictures.
The story happens in a city where a gang of robbers targets rich peoples and their bungalows for money and gold. A police team lead by DCP (Nasser) is conducting investigation on these incidents. Lee (Jeeva) is a kung-fu student, who is deeply attached to his master (Selva). He came across a girl (Pooja Hegde) and started loving her. He is trying to impress her by reaching her house side at night, wearing a different costume, using mask like super hero. Though, he did this to attract the girl, he has not succeeded in it. On the other hand, the circumstances had forced him to use the costumes once again, but for
a different cause.
The movie has got the story that is necessary for a super heroic subject. The director has not been able to handle it properly, like the master director Shankar did in the past with a similar topic. The second half is not in the best form. The heroism skills are not used in a stable manner. It is an usual one like the good vs the bad and in the end, the winning is for the expected person. The ending is done in a usual manner, accompanied by fights. The villain character is not defined properly. The heroine character does not have anything much to perform. Any way, the movie has got a Myshkin touch, at parts. The action scenes done by 'Action' Prakash and the hollywood team (probably the jumping through the roof tops and the kung-fu techniques) looks realistic.
Sathya's cinematography is excellent, especially the night visuals need a great round of applause. Gaugin is the editor. Background score by K is impressive and good for the mood. A couple of songs in the movie are ok. The song 'Vaayamoodi Summa Iruda...' and its visuals (choreographer Renuka) has got the style of 'Kannadasan Kaaraikkudi...' in 'Anjathey'. The performance of Jeeva is good. Narein has got a different role to perform, he did his maximum. Nasser, Krishankumar and Girish Karnad gave good support. Pooja Hegde should wait for a couple of movies to create attention.
A better approach was expected from this Mughamoodi; it is a watchable one for hard core fans of tamil movies.
