MaasiI think, no special introduction or any polishing lines required while starting the review of a tamil action movie like 'Maasi', by Action King Arjun. No way, the movie is important to me. Even then, I have decided to watch it only to quote few words about the same in this site. The posters of the movie with the hero having gun in hand, surrounded by villains like Kota Sreenivasa Rao, Pradeep Rawat, Ponnambalam etc can attract those who love masala action movies. On the friday night, the 75% of the theater attendance shows that, such movies still have got viewers.

While going through the internet, it is known that the movie is censored an year before and it is a very late release here.

'Maasi' is directed by Kicha. He is the one who made a couple of police stories like 'Thee' (Sundar.C) and 'Bhavani IPS' (Sneha), before. Actor Arjun, who has done similar roles 'n' number of times, is the hero here. He comes as an encounter specialist, Maasi. New faces Archana and Hema are the heroines.

Maasi is an honest cop, who is engaged in cleaning the city from the two bad guys (Pradeep Rawat, Ponnambalam). He lost his wife's life during the middle of a gang war. He then forms a team, goes behind the villain groups, uses his gun to shoot them one by one. The villains Maasiuse their political powers to teach Maasi, a lesson. At one stage, Maasi got suspended from the service. The second half shows the villains being destroyed by the hero.

The story and the situations told here are not new. We saw it in many movies, many number of times. Here the hero is given the job to shoot the people with his gun. He is doing unlimited encounters. There are two heroines, none of them are notable to us, also they are not having any prominence. They are having two songs and few scenes. The change in attitude of the hero in the later parts, creates a confusion. The pathos songs felt like an unnecessary one. The lack of sensibility in the story line is the main problem.

Bhoopathy is the cinematographer. S.Saleem is the editor. None of the songs by Dhina is impressive, bg score is ok. Even though, this is an action subject and the presence of a stunt master like Anal Arasu is there, you can't see any thrilling action sequences here. There are only bullets fired one after other till the end. It is time for director Kicha to change his style and to be more serious in creating a movie. It is time for Arjun to become choosy, it is better for him leave repetitive roles like this.

Maasi is a masala action package without any logic; we have seen many like this, so it is good to stay away.
