3In the history of Indian movies, no such song and its promotional video has got, this much wide publicity as happened in the case of 'Why this kolaveri di...' song. The you tube hit count has crossed 5 Crores, since it is uploaded 120days before. It proved once again, music has no language barrier, the song is a big hit in North India also. This tamil number is sung and written by actor Dhanush; young new comer Anirudh, a relative of Aishwarya, is the music director. The song is prepared for the movie '3', the debut directorial venture of Aishwarya Dhanush, placing his husband as the hero and Shruthi Hassan as his pair. It is interesting to see, Superstar's daughter directing Ulaga Nayakan's daughter, also a rare privilege for a lady to give direction for her husband, standing behind the camera.

The song's popularity was so huge that many others started imitating the 'Kolaveri...' tune and making their own versions, the one featuring singer Sonu Nigam's son was an example. '3' was announced with Amala Paul in the heroine role, she even attended the pooja function of the movie. Later, she walked out and Shruthi Hassan came. Aishwarya Dhanush has worked as an assistant to director Selvaraghavan in couple of his projects, before. Velraj ('Aadukalam', 'Engeyum Eppodhum' fame) is the cinematographer. The script is written by the director herself.

Ram (Dhanush) and Janani (Shruthi Hassan) are 12th standard students. The boy is having a deep crush for the girl, later both started loving each other. Both of them comes from a different society background. Janani's parents are forcing her to take to US, but she hesitates to go. The lovers got married, without getting full support from their parents. They started living in a new apartment, presented by the hero's father (Prabhu). The change happening in the life of Ram, becomes the main plot in the later half.

The movie reminds us of a Selvaraghavan style in each and every frames. 'Mayakkam Enna' hangover can be seen in the majority of the visuals. If there are similarities in the sequences, at least try to place some different faces to perform in that. The matter becomes too identical, when Sundar Ramu is placed here also as the Dhanush's friend, both of them were seen in a similar way in 'Mayakkam Enna'. The movie got started in a surprising way. The first half goes smoothly with some attractive romantic and comedy sequences, the interval cut was also good. Later, the story goes in an unstable manner. The mental and psycho factor has been discussed before with the same hero, the national award winner has tried his best to come out of that image, but he has got another one here. Repeating him in the same style is a cliche, it is not a welcome scene. The emotional and crying shots of the heroine sometimes went out of control. The ghost / spirit shots is an overdose.

Even the 'Kolaveri...' song is not visualized in the best way (my friend always doubted and predicted months before that no better visuals can be done for this song, to dominate the promotional video currently uploaded in internet; he was right, choreographer Bhaskar has done it in an ordinary way only, like any other song).

A couple of romantic numbers felt good. Bg score by Anirudh matches the mood very well. Though there is only a single action scene, stunt master Silva3 has given an excellent job there. Velraj's cinematography is colorful. Kola Bhaskar is the editor. As a new comer, Aishwarya Dhanush has done a good job, the presentation of the movie is good, but she should have given more seriousness on the story and the scripting sides also. The reason for giving the title '3' for the movie is not known.

Dhanush has performed the role in an extraordinary way. Shruthi Hassan is good and gave the needed support, she has to be more careful in the emotional scenes. The chemistry happening between two characters is a notable one. Prabhu, the experienced one in the list, comes in his usual style. Sundar Ramu is natural. Siva Karthikeyan created some humour oriented scenes in the first half.

I agree, the creator had tried to keep an awareness on the bipolar disorder disease by giving a message in the end. The doubt is that whether it is placed in the right proportion in a commercial movie like '3' which comes with the hype of 'Kolaveri...' song. In the second half, at the middle of a dragging pin drop silence, somebody loudly cried 'why this kolaveri kolaveri... di', a 'desperate' question that might have asked to the lady director of the movie !

The creators of 3 have not been succeeded in maintaining the advantage received through the 'Kolaveri...' song. Very hard core fans of Dhanush and those who have not seen 'Mayakkam Enna' can try this, if it is too necessary...
